Korkers History

It was in October 1954 whilst working as a builders labourer in Cranbrook, I ( A. J Hoad) was 21 years old covered in mud, wet, thoroughly browned off and with no trade to call my own I decided to seek a trade that I considered would give me a future.

Never in my wildest dreams did I realise that within 5 years I would have gone from a small butchers shop here in Rolvenden to owning and running the main butchers shop in the area.

After some 4 years it became evident, to me anyway that butchers shops as I knew then were in decline, but the one growth area of the business was our sausages, so with a little bit of fine tuning Korker Sausages arrived, so good was the response that I made the decision to close the shop and go into the wholesale production of Korker Sausages, and what a beginning!  To make those 300lb of sausages each day by hand was quite a feat.     

It was not until 1969 that by pure chance an association with Express Dairies began, I met one of their Directors on an evening out, he said he liked our sausages and would consider doing business.Wow! We were on our way.
